Setting:
Before I start to blather on about the ins and outs of Remember Me, a little tidbit worth mention is that the game itself was inspired by social networking. Where in 2014 we have Facebook and Twitter, and those that follow in their steps documenting our lives as we choose to share them with the world, Remember Me features a system where the connection to the network is constant and our each and every move is documented and controlled. The scary thing is, most people are not only completely fine with the constant surveillance, but they willingly invite it to happen.
The World
It's the year 2084 and the world has changed quite a bit from what we live in today. Contrary to popular fiction of our time, the world has indeed not come to a fiery/nuclear/apocalyptic/alien invaded end and the sky remains as clear and blue as it ever was. Technology has advanced in leaps and bounds and while the cities of the world wield luxuries we could only imagine, the darker traits of humanity continue to strike the same boundaries they always have; those with wealth flourish while those without struggle on.
One of the more notable, and perhaps the most popular of advancements is that of a company named Memorize. What started as a study into the human memory and storing said memories safely in a remote location for later use, ended with the creation of a device called a Sensation Engine. The Sensation Engine, commonly known as a Sensen, is an implant that locks directly into the users brain. It allows the transference of memories from one place to another, one person to another, and the open ability to upload said chosen memories to the internet. Once on the net, the memories are open for sensory download via Sensen to any with access or willingness to do so.
To the people, Sensen offers the opportunity to share their unique experiences and perspectives with others, as well as a safe, secure place to forever preserve that memory. Further study and development would later grant those with a Sensen the ability to erase unpleasant memories from their minds forever. It's the perfect deal, or so it would seem, and the people were quick to snap the offer up. These days, the bulk of the world's population have a Sensen, as is indicated by the white and yellow disc-like image at the back of the wearers neck.
For all the good Memorize and it's creation seems to do, there's always a hidden clause. With the freedom to upload and download and a constant connection to the net spawning directly from the Sensen wearer, both Memorize and the governing bodies of the world have in their hands an ever running surveillance network with constant, accurate updates of every person in the system. Given the popularity of the Sensen, that's pretty much everyone.
Neo-Paris
When the Paris we know today was rocked by civil warfare, the place eventually dwindled to a ghost town. For decades Paris lay in ruin, the few who remained struggling to rebuild. Finally, the mayor of Paris, or Neo-Paris as it was renamed in reconstruction, struck a deal with a man named Antoine Cartier-Wells to use it as the base for his memory studies. Thus Memorize HQ was born, and as the years went by and the company gained more and more public support, the city around it began to grow and flourish. Technology of the company was used in rebuilding the city and given their proximity to the main headquarters, the people of Neo-Paris became some of the first to have a Sensen.
These days the city is vast and highly advanced, breaking into three separate levels of living; The Saint-Michel District, the upper slums and the lower levels of Slum 404.
Saint-Michel District
Here live the wealthy of Neo-Paris. Sensen is the foundation of this district. Everyone has one, everyone depends on one and the thought of life without one is a horror story indeed. Tall skyscrapers stretch to the skies and the wealthy live extremely comfortable lives. Robots do their housework and chores, flying drones act as both security and advertising and the local Memorize funded police force, SABRE patrol the streets to keep any crime under control. Memorize HQ stands at it's peak.
It's the pleasant place to live, and the people have little to worry about. That said, mid way through the game, a large dam in this district is blown up by rebel forces and Saint-Michel turns from a future Parisian paradise to a flooded, broken mess. Many people die and both bodies and broken mech/robots lie in the streets. Leapers, creatures from the lower levels of the city take advantage of the chaos and seek out to take revenge and add to the death toll.
Slums: The Upper and Lower
The deeper you go into the slums of Neo-Paris, the further into leaper territory you'll go. Slum 404 is a trash heap of broken down society and long neglected city. A large portion of it is flooded, a dam built to aid the richer districts in both comfort and aesthetics the reason for the flood. The upper levels of the slums area have been built atop the water or in buildings that while crumbling, still stand. A floating market on the water top is a key part to the upper levels of the slums society.
The surface of the slums is run down, but the people are surviving and the leapers are few. At the upper most level of the Slum district is a bar called The Leaking Brain. This bar is owned by a comrade and friend of Nilin by the name of Headache Tommy. While he used to be a memory hunter and Errorist like Nilin, events in the past have turned Tommy away from such a life. He now supports from his bar, offering a place to stay and information where he can give it, but no longer takes part in fieldwork.
Far below The Leaking Brain and further still below the floating market is what remains of the old Paris. The bulk of it is still in ruin from the war decades ago, with most structures simply not rebuilt. What still stands is run down and falling apart, the only repairs done by the poorly folk who live there. This is a dangerous place to live, and the deeper one goes, the worse it gets.
In the subways of Slum 404, leapers run rampant, attacking any and all who cross their path as they struggle to survive. As was mentioned above, the dam that was destroyed mid game and that effectively flooded the Saint-Michel district originally drowned a large portion of the slums. The water of the dam before it broke was the flooring of the floating market. With the dam gone, Slum 404 loses a lot of the civilization it's found but in turn unlocks a whole new section of washed out city to explore.
Leapers
The leapers are those cast aside, left for dead or shunted from society. Once human, they are now crazed beyond rational thought and are often physically deformed. This is the result of overdosing on memories or acts of Memorize. For some, memory sharing can become an addiction. Like any addiction, if not treated accordingly, it's a road to self destruction and in this case, leapers. Others are the result of Memorize testing, the first of the subjects in making Sensen bigger and better than it already is.
Given how long Memorize has been in control, how many in Neo-Paris and the world are hooked in Sensen and the kinds of human testing Memorize are quietly guilty of, the Leaper threat has hit the point where it can't be covered up any longer. They're getting more aggressive, branching out of their comfort zones and subway tunnels to attack those in the higher levels of the city. It's hit the point where even the rich are bothered by it and even their Sensen can't help them forget it for good. The Leapers are simply growing too bold and their numbers too many.
Thus Memorize has been forced to act. Rather than aid the Leapers in rehabilitation or to find a way for all to live in peace, they continue the testing that created the creatures in the first place. The Reconversion Project is brought into play and is in it’s early stages at the start of the game. What the project entails is quite simple, really. Leapers are taken, their warped minds further altered and what comes out in the end is an army of creatures who will obey. They’re designed to be public servants to the wealthy person's of Neo-Paris, set to assist in anything from military/police work to garbage disposal. This project is one stopped by Nilin before it really gets off the ground, though a few are still under the control of Memorize and it’s less cooperative members who still fight against Nilin.
Errorists
While most are more than happy to put their Sensen to good use and trust in Memorize, there are some who are well aware of the ulterior motives of the company and make no effort to hide their dislike. These people are the Errorists, a rebel organization fighting against both the government and Memorize in a bid to restore freedom of ones life and memories to the people. As well, they seek to make humanity see the world for what it really is again rather than living in their hand picked realities where the bad is simply deleted.
The agents of the Errorists are called Memory Hunters, and under the guidance of their leader, Edge, they use the Sensen against it’s makers. Memory Hunters have mastered the art of stealing a memory from an unsuspecting Sensen user, stripping the instance from the person entirely without them ever realizing the theft took place or that the memory taken ever existed at all. Through these thefts of memory, the Errorists gain access to codes, locations and classified information, and with hunters skilled enough to erase a memory, the opinions and experiences of Memorize officials can be changed. A special glove referred to as a kit is worn by the hunter to be able to do this. There are many different models of kit, but like with everything, the better they are, the more they’ll be able to achieve. How far the manipulation or theft goes depends entirely on the Memory Hunter on the job. Some are far superior in skills compared to others.
Nilin is a prime example of this. She is, in short, the best at what she does. This will be covered further in the Abilities section of the app.
La Bastille Fortress
Dubbed the Amnesia Cathedral, La Bastille is the most notorious prison in Europe. Upon arrival to the prison, all prisoners have their memories wiped in full and stored away. This keeps them from wanting to escape, since they cannot remember the outside world or anything about their lives before being in a cell. Storage of memories is controlled by a woman named Madame, who holds the keys to the memory banks. Bastille is heavily guarded, both by high tech robot soldiers and SABRE Force. The only paths in and out are by the well enforced front entrance with an entourage of guards at your sides marching you to your cell, or by a formerly flooded and barely known pathway from the sewers of Slum 404.
SABRE Force
SABRE Force are a private police force owned and run by Memorize. Led by a man named Trace, SABRE patrol both the upper streets of Neo-Paris and the halls of La Bastille.
Bounty Hunters
For every notorious Memory Hunter, there’s a sum of cash on their head for their capture. This is where Bounty Hunters come into play. They’re pretty standard, using what equipment they have to hunt down Memory Hunters and Errorists alike and turning them in to the authorities for cash. Bounty Hunters are dedicated to their work and genuinely seem to think they’re doing more good in the world than bad. To the people of Neo-Paris, they’re seen as heroes and icons to look up to. The most popular and well known is Olga Sedova, a woman who, with her husband holds the record for the most arrests in a year. She holds a personal vendetta against Nilin after an accident regarding her husband and is responsible for Nilin’s pre-game arrest.
Personality:
Nilin is, at heart, a good person. She fights for what she believes is right, no matter the cost or what she must do to get there. To Nilin, it's her duty to save the world from the creature it's become. The people are blinded by Memorize and the apparent freedoms a Sensen can offer, and being one of the few able to help them see again, and one partially responsible for the technology existing in the first place, she takes the fight as her own.
Her amnesia is both a frustration and a driving point that keeps her going. She’s enraged that her thoughts have been taken from her, which is a little hypocritical when you take into account how many minds she’s remixed over the years. It’s determination to find the truth and learn what’s really going on that pushes her forward and once she uncovers the answers to the bulk of those mysteries, her focus shifts from trusting Edge to get her mind back, to trusting Edge to help him with his cause.
All things considered, she’s got a bit of a sense of humor and snarky, sometimes sarcastic commentary flows from her lips no matter what’s going on. On a good day and in the company of the friends she’s made, Nilin would smile and laugh a lot more. This is something that will come back to her with time. For the moment, there’s far too much going on in her head and a lot she’s yet to fully process.
Her parents are one of these things. The memories returned to her brought with it what almost passed for betrayal. Her mother, Scylla Cartier-Wells and her father, Charles Cartier-Wells are the heads of Memorize and the very people she’s sworn to fight against. There’s love there, from both Nilin to her parents and the same in return, but the relationships are at first encounter, extremely complicated.
Nilin’s mother is an ambitious woman, and while Nilin herself inherited a fraction of that ambition, she also gained kindness and care from her father. In Nilin, the two aspects balance each other out. She strives to achieve, but doesn’t hold the coldness her mother does. Scylla prioritizes her work over being a mother, and while she cares for Nilin in her own way, she tends to treat Nilin more as another task to tend to rather than a child. As such, Nilin’s time with her mother was limited and lacking in the affection one would expect from a mother. It’s not that Scylla doesn’t care at all, she’s simply driven and focused on other things. It takes a memory remix from Nilin, who at the time doesn’t know Scylla is her mother, to turn Scylla from career ambition to prioritizing her family. It restores her humanity, allowing Scylla to see the error of her ways and support Nilin in doing what is right. Nilin has her mother again and the close bond that always should of been is restored. Having her mother, who Nilin forever adored no matter what went on between them, back on her side is yet another push that keeps her going.
Her father Charles, made a lot more time for Nilin in her younger years, though that too was a little selfish. His love for her was, and still is strong and true, and entirely the reason for his downfall. At the tender age of five, a car accident would severely damage Scylla’s leg and injure Nilin. Rather than accept the accident for what it was, Scylla blamed Nilin for the crash. Only a child and still at the age where kids idolize their parents and barely notice their flaws, being stuck with the blame and open hostility from her dear mother hit Nilin hard. Her father sought to fix this, and thus the very foundations of Memorize were born. He sought to remove Nilin’s memories of the crash, and then whatever other misfortunes or down moments came her way.
This is a revelation that catches Nilin well off guard and is one she’s still got fresh in her mind upon arrival to Tu Shanshu. What memories Charles took from her, no matter how genuine his claims that he did it for her protection, Nilin sees as sick. She’s disgusted and upset, appalled at the fact that her mind was tampered with at such a young age by someone she should of been able to trust. She’s aware in her adult years especially that humanity needs to experience both good and bad, and that Memorize is a clear example that putting a blanket over something doesn’t make it go away. Problems linger until they’re faced and in most cases just get bigger.
At the same time, she pities him. She can see that he did it to protect her, and in return to make him see, Nilin remixes him as well. It’s a hard thing to do, but it’s the only way to make him see clearly that Memorize is wrong, that what he did is wrong. Disgusted as Nilin might be with all that her parents have done, she still loves them. Had they of remained against her in the fight, Nilin wouldn’t of backed down. The wrongness of all that they’re doing and all that they’ve done is too much to ignore, family or not. She is however forever thankful for how things turned out between them.
That said, Nilin’s childhood was a lonely one. One parent loved her too little, the other too much, and both were heavily invested in their work. This played a large part in making Nilin who she is today. She’s reserved and guarded when it comes to people, trusting few and keeping the majority of people at a distance. Nilin works best alone, or with a team that isn’t immediately on the job with her. Best to give her information and send her on her way. That isn’t to say she couldn’t work alongside the right person. Her skill set is simply one that thrives on independence. It takes a lot of time to get to know her and even then, the woman has a lot of defenses.
She’s confident, openly challenging whoever gets in her way and meeting whatever situation arises without ever considering failure. Failure simply isn’t in her vocabulary. No matter how bad things get, she pushes herself to find a solution and put it to action. Whatever issues she comes up against, be they giant robots trying to crush her or mad men in gunships trying to riddle her with bullets, Nilin’s mind is at work. Her reflexes are excellent, the result of a lifetime of training in memory manipulation and putting a Sensen to full use the reason for her skills.
At the same time however, she’s very caring. The few friends she has, Nilin has a lot of time and respect for and would fight for them if trouble ever came their way. Nilin worries for the state of the city and it’s people and everything she does is, in some part, for their future. She questions the actions of her allies, specifically Edge and as memory returns, her former self. No one in her story has a clean slate. Everyone is at fault in some way and that worries her. She’s done some terrible things, and continues to do them in her search for what’s been taken from her. It's a hard path to walk. Her options are sorely limited and while the guilt will eat away at her later, if they want to succeed, then pushing forward and doing whatever it takes it the best she can do.
One particular death that continues to eat away at her is that of Frank Forlan. A remix Nilin performed before the game began drove the man to think he's murdered his wife in drunken rage. In turn, the man put a gun to his own head in the real world. She pushed him to suicide for the good of the mission and while Nilin is genuinely shocked that it went that far, as far as she sees it his death is on her hands.
Another weight on her chest is the death of Bad Request, another Memory Hunter. He got into the trade because of her, and effectively gets caught by Memorize for the same reason. Upon finding out he's been imprisoned in La Bastille, Nilin wastes no time in going after him. Her loyalty to the few friends and allies she has is strong. In the end, she's too late. In the short time she knew him, he became a friend. His loss will weigh heavily on her heart forever.
Forgiveness is something Nilin might show her parents, but others are not so lucky. When push comes to shove, Nilin can be downright merciless in her attack. Some crimes against her are simply too much and in return for the suffering Nilin faced at the hands of SABRE Force in La Bastille, she makes no effort to save their lives or make their deaths clean. She holds the belief that some people need to suffer for their crimes, particularly when they’re as distasteful as what she’s experienced.
Someone that encourages Nilin when it comes to taking revenge by what might be considered extreme measures is Edge. He’s the first voice she heard after the memory wipe and the one ally who is with her the entire fight. Edge is a friend, someone Nilin cares a lot for. He’s been there since her childhood and the bond between them is like that of siblings. Finding out that he’s her enemy terrifies Nilin. Edge is H3O. H3O is the very core of Memorize. That he’s been pushing her towards his murder is heartbreaking. She’s conflicted, knowing the reason for what must be done but at the same time not wanting anything to happen to him. Nilin doesn’t want him to go. Edge has saved her life, and she in turn must ‘save’ his. Sadly to save him means to kill him. She’s desperate for another way, even if she knows there isn’t one. Even though Edge has rigged the situation to be what it is, to put her where she stands so that she can put an end to his existence, Nilin still struggles to think of something, anything, that could do the job but spare his life.
He’s helped her become who she is, has experienced every moment of her life and exists because of her. Again, this adds to the guilt complex Nilin already holds, even if this time things really are out of her hands. There’s disappointment in herself for not finding another way, or realizing sooner, but that is something she pushes down in favor of loyalty to her friend. With all that Edge has done for her, this is the least she can do for him. Together, they’ll save the world at whatever cost. Once again, Edge is the driving force that picks her up and keeps her going.
In Tu Shanshu, Nilin will for the longest time quietly wonder if this is the result of someone messing with her head. She's remixed enough people in her years to be well aware of what can be done with a Sensen and the right person in control. This is a speculation that is bound to be kept quiet, at least until Nilin finds an ally that she truly trusts enough to bring it up with. Given that she's taken from moments before charging in to take down the final boss of the game, there'll be a lot of frustration in her. The fight against Malicant is one she’ll join and once she’s learned how serious the matter is, will invest herself in. Just the same, she'll want this business on the turtle done and dusted so that she can return and finish the task she'd set out to do. What's left to do at home is not an easy feat for her and still fresh in her mind.
In time, she’ll relax a little and will start to laugh and joke a bit more. There’ll be some guilt at whatever happiness she finds, but there’s little to be done about Neo-Paris when you’re on the back of a giant turtle.
Appearance:
Nilin is of a medium height and her frame is small and agile. What weight she carries is practically all muscle, given that she spends her days scaling buildings, climbing ledges and beating the snot out of bad guys with her awesome martial arts skills. She’s toned and fit but carries no bulk. Nilin is the gorgeous product of a mixed race couple. Her mother is dark skinned, her father caucasian and so Nilin’s skin tone sits somewhere between the two. Her hair is dark with a distinct burgundy wash through it and blonde highlights. It’s cut to a short bob and heavily layered to fan out to the sides. She has freckles on her face, which is kind of adorable and her eyes are blue. Nilin has a small scar on her lip, the result of a childhood accident.
This is a Nilin! :D
Abilities:
What abilities Nilin has are for the most part, limited to her Sensen and others with the same implant. Without the Sensen she’s a brilliant martial artist and fighter, but with it she’s even more in tune with her mind and body and that of those around her. Like any computer, the Sensen can be rewritten and coded to do more than it’s originally designed to do. Programs of sorts can be written for them. It’s incredible work, and far beyond the level of most people who have them. Nilin, being the memory hunter that she is and dealing with the foes that she does, has not only created and learned Sensen abilities to aid her in her quest, but can also take them from others.
Below is a list of what Nilin’s Sensen and Kit is capable of at the time of app.
Sensen Fury
Fury is more or less berserker mode, only Nilin keeps her head and doesn’t lose her senses. She hits hard and fast and consistent without tiring. Sensen Fury lasts roughly 10 seconds.
Spammer
Originally created by and used by ex-memory hunter Kid Christmas. The Spammer shoots bursts of raw data that both stuns and damages enemies. Damage is minimal, but she can just keep on shooting that tiny rounds for a 10-15 second time frame before she’s out. It recharges almost instantly, a small meter building up and regaining energy the moment a shot is fired. The Spammer can also be used to jam augment reality enabled devices. These include force field anchors, electronic doors of the locked and unlocked nature and lowering ladders.
Sensen Dos
Sensen Dos shuts down all Sensen and most robots within a 20 meter radius for a short period of time and stuns all enemies. Invisible foes of this nature are also revealed for the duration of the shutdown.
Junk Bolt Spammer
Junk Bolt Spammer shoots a hard, fast and decently sized blast of data strong enough to destroy weakened structures and enemy shields. It works by the same charge system as the standard Spammer and needs maximum charge to work.
Drone Detection * does not require cool down.
With the right parts salvaged from the wreck of a security drone, Nilin is able to alter her Sensen to let her see a drones field of vision and effectively avoid it.
Logic Bomb
The Logic Bomb is an explosive virus that will destroy enemy shields in the blast range and deal heavy damage to all targets.
Rust In Pieces
Robots of hostile nature (though there’s nothing to say it wouldn’t work on all robots) become allies to Nilin and fight alongside her for a fifteen second stint. Once the time is up, they self destruct. Oh dear.
Force Spammer
With the Force Spammer, Nilin is able to move certain devices by overriding and overloading their control systems. An electronic lock that would require machine power to move is now easily shifted to unlock. The same goes for large electronic items on rails or pulleys. They’ll move like they’re light as can be with this ability.
Remembrane * does not require cool down
A remembrane is a projection of the path walked left behind by a Sensen user. They’re digitized memory, linked to a spawn point, or remembrane. A remembrane is personal to the creator, and so to be used by anyone other than them, the data must first be taken from their Sensen. Once the data is obtained, the user need only stand near to where the remembrane was placed and their Sensen will detect the start point and give option to activate.
Activation draws upon the memory connected to the remembrane, and a lifelike projection comes to life, seen only by the one who activated it. It can’t interact, and only shows a path previously walked. Aside from following along and listening to whatever the poster has said in recording, there’s little else to do. They’re simply a marker of what was, or a map depending on how they poster has set them up. However, should the remembrane projection pause to unlock a door or input a code, Nilin is able to sync with the projection and gain the pass code or digital key via them.
Remix
Where most Memory Hunters have mastered the art of stealing memories from unsuspecting Sensen users, Nilin is one of the few capable of twisting a memory to suit her own needs. It’s an incredibly rare skill; the ability to not only steal a memory, but to manipulate it and rewrite it. She in no way alters the real world with this rewrite, and can only use triggers present in the memory she’s changing to make the change occur, but the owner of the memory she’s tampering with will swear on their life that events went as she’s dictated. The change in memory exists solely in the owners head, but it’s a strong, emotional change and certainly one strong enough to alter their entire outlook on well, everything. Again, it all depends on how it’s done and Nilin is far superior in her field to anyone else.
A few minutes cool down is required between each ability used (unless marked otherwise). While some of these Sensen abilities were taken from others highly skilled in Sensen use and memory hunting, a lot of them never have their origin revealed. We know that Nilin is highly skilled in this field and supposedly the best, but without her memories in full, it’s impossible to confirm whether she made them herself or not. Since she is as good at this work as she is, I’d say Nilin created some of these herself and is perfectly capable of, with the right amount of time and effort, making further Sensen add-ons. Any add-ons she might make on the turtle are subject to mod approval.
The bulk of these will be useless to Nilin in game, but better to mention them than get stuck without. Also worth mention is that Nilin is an absolute champ when it comes to climbing. In game she scales buildings with ease and climbs her way out of the rubble that is Slum 404 more than a few times. She has no fear of heights and is comfortable to leap from building to building no matter the distance below her.

The Metal Sector would be my pick for Nilin. Neo-Paris is a futuristic city filled with technology and so this place would feel the most home to her. She’ll still explore like crazy, but this would be the best base point for her.

Third Person:
Trust her luck that the only way in was via the roof. Nilin sighed heavily and threw herself across to a neighbouring ledge. Once there, she pulled herself up and sat on it's edge. The weather was warmer than usual that day, and Nilin was feeling the heat. Glancing down, the streets of Neo-Paris fell far below her. She'd climbed some distance, but there was still a fair way to go. A few seconds pause was all she'd allow herself. Nilin moved to her feet and began to shuffle along the small outcropping, frowning a little as she did.
"There should be a law about buildings being this tall," she muttered, well aware that her accomplice and leader could hear her, even if he was nowhere in sight.
Right on cue, a male voice spoke to answer her.
"You're almost there, Sis. Going in any other way would have alerted security."
Nilin sighed and waved a hand in dismissal. She knew the reasons for it, that these precautions were both for her own good and that of the job, but it was still a strenuous task. Pausing again, she brought two fingers to the side of her head to open an official communication channel between herself and the voice. "I know, I know. Going in this way means I don't have a swarm of SABRE force and combat drones crashing down on my head."
Without waiting for a reply, she let her hand fall once more to the ledge and continued her climb. A little way more and she stopped again, silently hanging below a large window, out of sight of the security bot that paced on the other side of the glass. Her Sensen allowed her to see the range of vision the bot had, and once it had passed and she was clear of the window, Nilin spoke again. "Next time, we're getting transport of some form."
Fingers dug into the grooves of a pillar, Nilin continued skyward. "Just keep climbing, Nilin," she muttered to herself.
Sample Two:
Her mind was a mess, conflicted thoughts and revelations intertwined and caught up with one another. The past twenty-four hours had been an overload of information, a swarm of thoughts and memories that no one should ever forget forcing their way back into her mind. She had no choice but to keep going. The only way left to go was forward. There was simply too much riding on her actions. An entire world depended on her to act but Edge’s words struck a fear in her heart unlike anything Nilin had ever known. H3O must die, in this moment by her hand, that much went without saying. But what was H3O, or who? Nilin already knew the answer and it scared her. She knew it was him. Edge was the system she’d come to destroy and he himself had made it so.
It was a strange feeling, to move forward knowing that with every step taken she was that bit closer to ending it all. Meeting Edge face to face would likely be his death. He’d structured it to be so. No matter how Nilin wanted otherwise, and no matter how she tried to think of another way, the reality was one she simply had to face. She wouldn't give up without a fight, no matter how he stated, with his usual calculated resolve, that this was the only way. There had to be another way. It couldn't end like this.
Nilin faced the risk of losing the only one who, save for her childhood robotic panda companion, had been there for her the entirety of her life. He’d experienced her every moment right alongside her without her even knowing it. He was the only one who’d truly listened and understood her. He’d been born from her thoughts, and now she risked losing him forever.
And for what? A city of people he hated, that she herself held a distaste for, who hated both Edge, Nilin and the entire Errorist movement just the same. Edge didn't seem to care that he was enemy number one. If anything he took it as an accomplishment. Nilin on the other hand couldn't quite shake the guilt. She knew her actions were for the people in the long run, that everything she did was to bring down Memorize and save them all from the monster her parents had created, but the level of harm she'd inflicted getting there hung heavy in her heart. Learning that Memorize was the creature it became because of her fathers love for her hit harder still. There was still so much left unknown; details that were yet to return to her in full that were perhaps worse than anything she remembered.
Perhaps this was the punishment for all that she'd done, no matter the cause. Ahead of her walked a memory, Nilin’s own self as a child accompanied by the robot panda she’d always loved. Each step she took sounded a hollow echo about the halls around her and brought her a little closer to the one thing she never wanted to happen.
Network:
You bring me here to fight a war when there’s war enough happening back home. Can you really not fight this 'great evil' yourselves?
[It’s more frustration speaking than any real anger. Nilin might be busy, but she’s certainly not heartless.]
At least you have the decency to pause things while I’m away.
[The concept of time being frozen entirely doesn’t seem to bother her in the slightest. She touches her hand to her temple a moment before looking back to the console.]
Tell me then, what exactly are we dealing with here? Both the Kedan and Emperor were a little lacking in detail. The sooner we wrap this up, the sooner I can get back to my own work.

She has freckles on her face,
This is a Nilin! :D
